Skiing in Kaprun
The Kaprun ski area has blue, red and black runs ideal for beginners, intermediate skiers and professionals. Numerous ski lifts take skiers to one of the resort's ski areas. A three-cable aerial cableway, the first of its kind in Salzburg, runs directly from the centre of Kaprun to the Kitzsteinhorn and connects Kaprun with the Maiskogel and the glacier ski area. The main ski area lies at an altitude of between 786 m and around 3000 m, with 61 kilometres of pistes. Kaprun ski resort is located in the Glocknergruppe mountain range, in a region with 100% guaranteed snow cover. Downhill skiing, carving, freeriding, snowboarding or cross-country skiing on groomed runs are all possible, as are ski lessons for beginners at one of Kaprun's ski schools. Freestylers will find plenty to do in one of the snow parks, and a ski pass means you can get to the resort you want quickly and without too much effort. In the Kaprun ski area, you can also hire the ski and snowboard equipment you need from our Skimium hire shop.
Activities in Kaprun
Spending your days on the slopes and letting off steam is certainly the aim of all skiers on winter holidays in Kaprun. However, you also need to rest from time to time and regain your strength. Kaprun offers countless opportunities to do this off the slopes. You can take it easy and relax, for example at the Tauern Spa in Kaprun, if you want to give your hard-working muscles a treat, which is also advisable if you want them to be fully functional again. You can also treat yourself to a fine wine, a good meal and some conviviality in one of the rustic inns or settle into one of the après-ski refuges. And don't forget to explore the region off the slopes. Kaprun Castle, which probably dates back to the 12th century, is well worth a visit. Why not take a long winter hike? To the south, a wooden footbridge leads over the lapping waters of the glacier and across the narrow ridge of Sigmund Thun. The high mountain paths offer breathtaking views of the 2 reservoirs. Kaprun is the starting point for numerous winter hiking trails, which are regularly maintained.
