Wengen Resort
Wengen enjoys an exceptional location. Set on a terrace above the valley, at an altitude of 1,274 metres, the resort is protected from road traffic. It can only be reached by a cog railway, the Wengernalpbahn, from Lauterbrunnen, the municipality to which it belongs. As a result, Wengen is a pedestrian village where you can stroll in peace and quiet, breathing in the pure, invigorating mountain air. The Swiss ski resort also enjoys generous amounts of sunshine. It faces south-west, overlooking the valley. While the valley is eaten away by the shadows of the surrounding peaks, Wengen remains bathed in light. A luxury that is much appreciated in winter, when the cold is intense and the days are short. The village is home to a number of old wooden chalets, a few Belle Époque hotels, shops and around twenty restaurants. A tourist office is also on hand to provide all the information you need for your stay. Ski hire in one of our Skimium shops and ski pass sales are also available here.
Skiing in Wengen
Located in the Bernese Alps, the ski resort of Wengen is more precisely situated in the Jungfrau region. This 4,158-metre peak and the surrounding mountains offer exceptional skiing conditions. Wengen is also home to the fearsome Eiger (3,970 metres), which is reputed to be particularly difficult to climb. And for those who follow the Ski World Cup, it's also home to the famous Lauberhorn downhill, one of the most famous on the circuit. But that's not all. You don't need to be a mountaineer or an exceptional skier to enjoy Wengen. The 110 kilometres of the family-friendly Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area are made up of easy and medium runs. This ski resort also shares the ski area with neighbouring Grindelwald. In total, there are no fewer than 206 kilometres of pistes for holidaymakers to enjoy. All served by 8 gondolas and cable cars, 23 chairlifts and 10 drag lifts.
Activities in Wengen
Even if you love skiing, you can also enjoy the other charms of the mountains. Firstly, by indulging in other gliding activities! The Jungfrau region offers more than 15 kilometres of toboggan runs! In the centre of the village of Wengen, there's an open-air ice rink where you can enjoy a series of twists, turns and double Axels. As well as hiring skis, you can also find a snowshoe to suit your needs. And that's good news, because snowshoe excursions are organised all over the Bernese Oberland. There are also around fifty kilometres of signposted hiking trails. Walking is still the best way to discover the countryside and breathe deeply.
